Slurry as a source of nutrition

With increasing intensification in agriculture, feed yield is only becoming more important. Not only the quantity is decisive, but also the quality of feed plays a key role in the farm’s operating result.

For maximum results, there are 3 main factors that influence this:

  • Minimum soil damage when tilling the arable land;
  • Quality & quantity of slurry applied (more is not necessarily better);
  • Timing & manner in which slurry is applied.

Proper slurry injection (and overseeding with high quality grass, clover and herb seeds) with a slurry injector has now proven to be the most cost-effective way.

Slurry is a nutrient

Despite all the negative messages surrounding slurry, it is still seen as a nutrient for soil and crops. The main elements in animal slurry and digistate are nitrogen (N), potassium (K), phosphorus (P) and magnesium (Mg).

In particular, the elements nitrogen and phosphate ensure crop growth and quality. Animal slurry and digistate are therefore high-quality nutrients for the crop! We can safely say that with slurry, the farmer has money in his hands.

The big difference in yield between one farmer and another is mainly in how he or she uses and applies the slurry.

Emission is the difference

Emission* is an evaporation process, and therefore dependent on weather conditions. Radiation, humidity, wind, slurry composition, temperature and quantity affect the evaporation process and thus nitrogen loss.

The contact surface of the slurry with the ambient air also greatly affects the evaporation process. This automatically means that spreading slurry on arable land with a Vredo slurry injector is many times more environmentally friendly and effective than simply spreading it.

* Nitrogen loss is very much dependent on weather conditions – this applies to all application techniques

Why a Vredo slurry injector?

Sharp cutting

With its slurry injector series equipped with the new solid V-disc or the unique double disc system, Vredo holds the key to sharp cutting. The solid V-disc and the two V-shaped discs make a narrow cut in the turf, which is the same under all soil conditions – clay, peat, loam or sand, either wet or dry.

The V-shaped discs cut the turf sharply and open it horizontally, leaving the root system intact and preventing compaction. The soil also retains an open structure, allowing optimum absorption of slurry. This prevents burning and drying out of the crop. The individually suspended and mechanically sprung elements feature a drag foot to create a tight cut. Together with the unique pendulum yoke to move the outer elements, this ensures perfect ground following. By
the sharp cut with minimal compaction, the soil remains resilient and the trench quickly rebounds. As a result, weeds have little chance of growing in the trench.

The slurry is placed in the cut by specially shaped discharge nozzles, which are virtually between or directly behind the discs. The V-shaped discs have a cutting and self-sharpening action. The Solid V disc and double V disc experience little rolling resistance, which ensures low power requirements and thus minimal fuel consumption.

With the Vredo solid V or double-disc system, the sod is cut sharply and opened with low compaction. This results in the roots absorbing nutrients optimally and the sod resumes its original position. The VREDO element = quality!

Low-compaction work

Required traction force

According to independent research, the required traction force of a Vredo slurry injector is the lowest compared to other slurry injector principles. Also compared to competing systems such as a knife coulter, a disc coulter and a convex disc, the Vredo slurry injector does little damage to the soil (read compaction and smearing of the soil). Competing systems compact the soil because the disc/couter is pressed vertically into the soil. Vredo’s low-compaction action keeps the soil resilient, partially springing the trench back up and giving weeds less of a chance.

Superior soil tracking

The key to the perfect slurry injection is achieved thanks to the action of the DUO slurry element, which is offset against the frame, combined with the pendulum action of the frame. This collaboration between the two ensures that the Vredo slurry injector continues to inject slurry at the same depth even on undulating and uneven grassland. Even over a hump, the Vredo continues to follow the ground and thus the slurry is deposited neatly in the cut. All PROFI and PROFI ECO slurry injectors are fitted with the unique vredo pendulum mechanism, which ensures that the frame can oscillate freely both under pressure and when relieving pressure.
